Wong is long-time Boston EMS EMT and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center Emergency Department Technician

November 16, 2016 – BRIGHTON, MA –On November 3 the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council (Region IV) awarded Philip Wong, EMT and St. Elizabeth’s Emergency Department technician, with is BLS (Basic Life Saving) annual award.

Award criteria encompass all EMS Providers involved in the delivery of pre-hospital care within Region IV.  Phil Wong, who has worked at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for almost 20 years was nominated by Sush Prusty, MD, a St. Elizabeth’s emergency room physician and its EMS Medical Director.

According to Dr. Prusty’s nomination, Wong, “exemplifies the best attributes of the professional BLS EMS provider. In his lengthy career as a Metropolitan Boston EMS Council Region IV EMT he has saved numerous lives, greatly comforted and expertly cared for countless patients, and supported the local EMS, health care, and public safety system through devotion to service, commitment to patient care, and concern for others.”

Wong has served the Allston-Brighton community as a Boston EMS EMT for 22 years, as an ED EMT technician at St. Elizabeth’s for almost 20 years, and has taught CPR and first aid to the public at the West Suburban YMCA for 11 years.  Prior to Boston EMS, Phil was an EMT with a private ambulance service for 17 years. Phil has lived in the Boston area all of his life.

Dr. Prusty said, “Phil's gentle and kind sense of humor is well known and a welcome respite from the seriousness of the work.  On the scene and in the patient care setting, Phil always puts the patient and patient family first and his professional bearing and focus are an example to all.  His advocacy and dedication to doing the right thing for patients and the community is based in humility, compassion and community commitment.  He projects a steady, calm, friendly and solid example.”

“I love taking care of the people,” said Wong. “I was shocked to learn about the award however, today is business as usual for me. I’m working today so I’ll go in and do my job as I’ve done it for the past 38 years.”
